Walking Group Leader Award
The WGL (Walking Group Leader) is the basic award for leaders of hill walking groups in clearly defined terrain and conditions.
Such terrain includes open, uncultivated, non-mountainous high or remote country known variously as upland, moor, bog, fell or down.
You should have at least one year’s hill walking experience and an interest in leading hill walking groups.
Your hill walking experience should include at least 20 hill walks where you take part in the planning, leadership, navigation, 5 hours of journey time and where adverse weather conditions may be encountered.
The scheme consists of six stages:
- Gain personal hill-walking experience
- Registration and issue of log book MLTE
- Attend a Training course
- Period of Consolidation
- Attend an Assessment course
- Continuing logbook experience and any relevant additional professional training
