Single Pitch Award Assessment
Before attending a single pitch award assessment course you must have:
- Registered on the scheme - see relevant board.
- Attended a training course or gained exemption from training - and have this recorded.
- Gained the further experience noted in your logbook - see training course details.
- Proficiency in the use of indoor climbing walls
- Competently led Severe grade rock climbs on leader placed protection
- A valid First Aid Certificate
The 2 day assessment course will include an evening session (usually at the climbing wall), and candidates will be tested in accordance with the syllabus requirements.
A typical assessment course may well look like this:
Itinerary
day 1 single pitch award assessment
We spend the day assessing your personal rock climbing skills on lead climbing and belay construction. In addition to this we will be assessing your access and conservation knowledge throughout the day. This day will also include a visit to an indoor wall to cover supervision skills in this popular environment.
day 2 single pitch award assessmant
This day focuses on your group management and technical skills for looking after novices in rock climbing and abseiling activities. We will expect you to solve common problems found on single pitch climbs with novice groups and structuring your sessions accordingly. Relevant access and conservation issues will also be assessed. At the end of the course we conduct an individual review with yourself to determine your outcome.
